The Center for Healing Generosity offers people of all ages (teenagers must be at least 14 years of age) a way to use their time, talent and treasure at Heartland Regional Medical Center (HRMC) and Heartland Hands of Hope Hospice. Our volunteers or “Ambassadors” generously give to Heartland through various acts of kindness.
Time: Ambassadors give of their time in traditional roles to help our team of caregivers provide the best and safest care. You may be lending experience you have from a previous profession (such as administrative skills), your muscles (to make deliveries, for example) or your heart and mind (as a patient visitor).
The Center for Healing Generosity also offers a Retired RN Ambassador Program for retired registered nurses who would like to give a few hours of their time a week using their unique experience to provide enhanced delivery of care, comfort patients and support caregivers.
Talent: Ambassadors share special skills or talents to provide positive distractions for our patients and visitors. Animal Assisted Activities are provided by our pet partner teams who are registered through the Delta Society of Missouri. Music therapy, massage techniques, Healing HeARTs art activities are just a few of the programs that bring joy and relaxation to our guests.
Treasure: In 2009, the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries named the Heartland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary (HRMC) its Auxiliary of the Year (for auxiliaries with more than 300 supporters). For the past 80 years, the HRMC Auxiliary has blessed the organization. It has created scholarships for students entering the medical field, provided equipment to the medical center and sponsored special projects.
The benefits of becoming a Healing Ambassador are limitless — you will have the chance to “give back” while making a difference in others’ lives. Whether you are young and looking for ways to explore the health–care field or an empty–nester exploring uses of your time — becoming a Healing Ambassador is a great way to make new friends — FOR LIFE.
In 2008, the HRMC Auxiliary accepted the challenge to help bring awareness of breast cancer to the people of northwest Missouri. Working with the medical center, the Auxiliary was instrumental in the creation of The Breast Center at Heartland Regional Medical Center, a coordinated–care effort linking cancer and surgical specialists with the patients they serve. Through these and ongoing efforts, the auxiliary now supports the Breast Cancer Patient Assistance fund, which does everything from provide soft, cotton terry robes to patients who are undergoing treatment to aiding women who need financial help to receive treatment.
All Healing Ambassadors are automatically members of the HRMC Auxiliary. If you would like to be a member of the auxiliary, it is not necessary to volunteer your time and talent. You may, instead, like to help in Sunshine Corner Gift Shop, a truly unique shopping experience and the auxiliary’s primary source of funding or simply give of your treasure as a way of supporting our efforts.
